About
I’m Tyler Fleming, an IT Systems and Security Engineer based in Sammamish, WA. Been in this field since 2011, starting in the Army and working through a range of companies where the environments were messy and the problems were real.
Background
I grew up in the Pacific Northwest and have been tinkering with computers long enough that it accidentally became a career. The Army drilled in the fundamentals: structured environments, actual stakes, and zero patience for close-enough solutions. Five years running mobile network operations centers for thousands of personnel in the field will do that to you.
After getting out, I went into consulting, which threw me into a new client environment every few weeks. That got me breadth fast. In-house roles gave me depth. Now I do both, sometimes on the same problem.
Education and certifications
- Bachelor of Applied Science: Information Systems and Technology (Cyber Security focus)
- Associate of Arts and Sciences, Bellevue College
- Warrior Leadership Course (US Army Sergeant Training)
- MCSA: Windows Server
- Microsoft Certified: Azure Fundamentals
Outside of work
I’ve had a homelab running for close to ten years. A lot of what I’ve deployed professionally I ran in the lab first — it’s less a hobby and more how I stay current without betting production on it. See the Homelab page for more detail.
I’m also a gamer. Pokemon and Starfox on the N64, PC gaming on Windows 98, and now I own at least one of every console.
